Profile: The Centre for Sustainable Transportation

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

The Centre for Sustainable Transportation (CST) is an affiliate member of the SmartWay Transport Partnership. This is a strategic opportunity for the CST to promote leadership in sustainable freight transportation and to develop greater collaboration with the North American freight transportation industry. The CST facilitates best practices for the movement of people and goods over the long-term. It utilizes strategies from research to implementation, while balancing social, economic, environmental and technical attributes.

The CST bridges academic, business and public interests with local to global application. It identifies and helps craft winning transportation solutions that benefit society and environment and enhance mobility. Lastly, the CST is a central resource on sustainable transportation practices and supporting information. The CST’s affiliation with and promotion of SmartWay is one clear example of the type of partnership that advances sustainability and innovation in transportation.

"Freight transportation is critical in all aspects of our lives. Our natural environment, economic prosperity, and social well being all depend on freight transportation systems and practices that are clean, efficient, and equitable. Current transportation trends are threatening our environmental, economic, and social future. The Centre’s participation in SmartWay will help alter these trends and the Centre is eager to engage the collaboration and cooperation of its freight transportation stakeholders in the SmartWay Transport Partnership."
