ANTITRUST DIVISION NAMES NEW DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL

David L. Meyer to Serve as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Enforcement

WASHINGTON — Thomas O. Barnett, Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division, today announced that David L. Meyer has been appointed to serve as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General in charge of civil enforcement for the Division. Meyer will oversee three of the Division's civil sections in this important leadership position.

"From his previous experience at the Department and from his years in private practice, David brings to the Division a wealth of antitrust expertise," said Barnett. "The Division is fortunate to have someone of his ability on the antitrust enforcement team."

Since 1989, Meyer has practiced at Covington & Burling's Washington, D.C. office, where he became partner in 1994 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Antitrust and Consumer Law Practice Group. At Covington, Meyer counseled corporate clients on issues related to pricing, joint ventures, and distribution arrangements. He also represented parties in merger-related enforcement actions in the healthcare, energy and other industries, and litigated private antitrust matters involving pharmaceutical and transportation companies, among others.

Previously, Meyer served the Antitrust Division as Special Assistant to Assistant Attorney General Charles F. Rule from 1987 to 1989. Meyer clerked for Judge Ralph K. Winter of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1986 to 1987.

Meyer graduated from Yale Law School in 1986, where he served as Senior Editor and Editor for the Yale Law Journal and Yale Journal on Regulation, respectively. More recently, Meyer has published several articles on antitrust issues and served as Associate Editor of the ABA Antitrust Section's Antitrust Magazine. Meyer earned his B.A. in economics from Amherst College, graduating magna cum laude in 1983.
