WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Justice announced today the appointment of David Turetsky as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Regulatory Affairs.

Anne K. Bingaman, Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division, said Turetsky's duties will include supervision of the Division's efforts with respect to regulated entities, including the telecommunications industry. He will oversee civil litigation, policy, and the filing of regulatory comments in these areas.

"David Turetsky has immeasurably contributed to the Division's goals in his work here thus far. We are fortunate in having someone so accomplished, dedicated and knowledgeable in this position," said Bingaman.

Turetsky came to the Division in October 1993, as Senior Counsel, and since that time has worked on a variety of legal policy issues. He has spearheaded the Division's efforts in the legislative arena, devoting time both to the International Antitrust Enforcement Assistance Act of 1994, and the telecommunications bills currently under consideration in Congress. He was a member of the U.S. government delegation to the G7 Conference on the Information Society in Brussels, Belgium, this spring. He also worked on the recently completed agreement between Ameritech and the Department which allows Ameritech, a local telephone company, to offer long distance service on a trial basis.

Prior to his arrival at the Division, Turetsky was a partner at LeBouef, Lamb, Leiby & MacRae, in New York City. He also practiced in the firm's Newark, New Jersey, office.

He received his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1982, where he won the Hinton Moot Court competition, and received his B.A. magna cum laude from Amherst College. He also studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Turetsky and his wife Vicki, residents of Hackensack, New Jersey, before their arrival in Washington D.C., currently live in Alexandria, Virginia, with their five year old daughter, Kate.
