STATEMENTS REGARDING PROPOSED REMEDY IN MICROSOFT CASE Attorney General Janet Reno and Assistant Attorney General Joel I. Klein issued the following statements today after the Department filed its proposed remedy in the Microsoft case: Attorney General Reno: "This is the right remedy at the right time. Our proposal will stimulate competition, promote innovation, and give consumers new and better choices in the marketplace." Assistant Attorney General Klein: "Under our proposal, neither ongoing government regulation nor the self-interest of an entrenched monopolist will decide what is best for consumers. Instead, consumers will be able to choose for themselves the products they want in a free and competitive marketplace."
