GSA's New Legal Resource FEDLAW Available On InternetGSA #9374 December 31, 1996 General Services Administration (GSA) today announced that its newest aid for Government employees and citizens, a legal and regulatory research resource on the Internet called FEDLAW, is open for business. This latest Internet tool became a reality through the combined efforts of Carole Dortch, Regional Administrator, Southeast Sunbelt Region; Bob Woods, Commissioner, Federal Telecommunications Service; and Emily C. Hewitt, GSA's General Counsel, Designed to aid Federal lawyers and other Federal employees doing legal or regulatory research, this new site has over 1,400 hypertext connections to other legal and regulatory data. This comprehensive site connects directly to a wide variety of sources throughout the United States such as the House of Representatives Internet Law Library and the Cornell University Legal Information Institute "This far-sighted project started as a partnership among the legal offices of various agencies in our regional building. It is a prime example of agencies working together to improve resources for all of us," said Dortch. The materials in FEDLAW include Federal laws, rules, and regulations; Federal judicial decisions; some state laws; sources relating to arbitration and mediation; general research and reference sources; professional associations, and legal-related how-to locations. The Internet URL address is http://www.legal.gsa.gov. "If we are to realize the productivity improvements from technology projected for the professional and managerial employees, we must learn to develop practical applications for the Internet," said Woods. "While this resource was developed by and for GSA, we are happy to share FEDLAW with the Federal legal community," said Hewitt. This new resource was developed in the Southeast Sunbelt Region by Janice Mendenhall, Assistant Regional Administrator, Federal Telecommunications Service, in response to a request for help from the legal staffs of various agencies in the Peachtree Summit Federal Building in Atlanta, GA.
