Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Maryland’s report is scheduled for release the week of June 8 and Kentucky’s for the week of June 22. Previously released reports are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.
Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2006 — A detailed look at registration and participation in the most recent congressional election, as well as the characteristics of those who voted, those who registered, and a look at the reasons why people who were registered did not vote. Find out who were the likeliest voters based on region, education, income, employment, race and Hispanic origin, and other factors. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early June.)
Veteran’s Earnings: 2005 — An analysis comparing the earnings of male and female veterans to the rest of the population. The analysis uses data from the 2005 American Community Survey, which allows an exploration of contributing factors to earning differences. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
International Data Base — The world population is expected to reach 7 billion in the next decade. More specific global population estimates and projections are released through the International Data Base, an Internet site where information on infant mortality, life expectancy, and other statistics for the world and more than 220 countries can be found. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
Fertility of American Women: 2006 — The first Census Bureau report on fertility patterns of American women to use data from the American Community Survey, making it the first to include state-by-state comparisons of fertility characteristics. Data from the Current Population Survey are also included, permitting historical comparisons. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
Economic
2006 County Business Patterns — The report provides data by county on the number of establishments, number of employees, and quarterly and annual payroll for the nation’s 7.5 million businesses with employees. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late June.)
Business Help Site — A wealth of useful information is available on the Census Bureau’s Business Help Site to assist companies complete forms for more than a dozen monthly, quarterly and annual economic surveys, including assistance in filing electronically. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late June.)
Facts for Features
Back to School — Although summer vacation has not quite arrived yet for many students, the Census Bureau is already looking ahead to the start of the 2008-09 school year. This fact sheet presents statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to teachers, students and the reopening of our country’s schools in late summer. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
Labor Day (Sept. 1) — This day, often considered the unofficial end of summer, is a longtime federal holiday (since 1984) honoring our nation’s workers. This fact sheet includes an array of demographic data spotlighting our nation’s labor force. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early July.)

South Dakota in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — May 28 — The state’s 2007 population of 3.7 million includes a higher percentage of the non-Hispanic white-alone population and a lower percentage of blacks than the nation as a whole.

National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation — May 27 — More than 87 million Americans participated in wildlife-related recreation in 2006, spending more than $122 billion. Data for Alaska, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming have been updated. 2008 Hurricane Season Begins (June 1) — May 28 — An estimated 35.3 million people live on the coastal portions of the states stretching from North Carolina to Texas, the areas most affected by north Atlantic hurricanes.
