States in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — A look at the population, selected characteristics and 2004 voting percentage of states as they approach their 2008 primaries. South Dakota’s profile will be released May 28. Previous releases are available at <http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/population/index.html>.
Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. New Jersey’s report is set for release May 27, and Maryland is scheduled for the week of June 8. Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2006 — A detailed look at registration and participation in the most recent congressional election, as well as the characteristics of those who voted, those who registered, and a look at the reasons why people who were registered did not vote. Find out who were the likeliest voters based on region, education, income, employment, race and Hispanic origin, and other factors. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late May.)
International Data Base — The world population is expected to reach 7 billion in the next decade. More specific global population estimates and projections are released through the International Data Base, an Internet site where information on infant mortality, life expectancy, and other statistics for the world and more than 220 countries can be found. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
Fertility of American Women: 2006 — The first Census Bureau report on fertility patterns of American women to use data from the American Community Survey; thereby, making it the first to include state-by-state comparisons of fertility characteristics. Data from the Current Population Survey are also included, permitting historical comparisons. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)
Facts for Features
Conversion from Analog to Digital TV (Feb. 17, 2009) — Facts and figures from the Census Bureau’s statistical abstract and other federal sources relating to television programming and the conversion from analog to digital broadcasting. (Tentatively scheduled for release in June.)
Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act (July 26) — In observance of the 18th anniversary of the enactment of this groundbreaking law, statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject areas about people with disabilities. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late May.)
Back to School — Although summer vacation has not quite arrived yet for many students, the Census Bureau is already looking ahead to the start of the 2008-09 school year. This fact sheet presents statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to teachers, students and the reopening of our country’s schools in late summer. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-June.)

Dynamics of Poverty: 2001–2003 — May 15 — Using the monthly poverty data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation from 2001 to 2003, this report examines poverty using several different views. For instance, monthly data show that nearly one-third of people had at least one spell of poverty lasting two or more months during the three-year period. In keeping with results from previous research, these data demonstrate that chronic poverty (having income below the poverty threshold in every month of the period) is relatively uncommon, with 2.4 percent of the population living in poverty all 36 months of the period. Participation of Mothers in Government Assistance Programs: 2004 — May 14 — Analyzes the socioeconomic characteristics of mothers participating in six public assistance programs, including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, food stamps and Medicaid.

Oregon in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — May 13 — The state’s 2007 population of 3.7 million includes a much higher percentage of the non-Hispanic white-alone population and a lower percentage of blacks than the nation as a whole.
