County and Puerto Rico Municipio Population Estimates: July 1, 2007 — Flagler County, named for the Florida East Coast Railway builder and situated along Florida’s northeast coast, has been among the nation’s fastest-growing counties in recent years. Was it the fastest growing last year? Internet tables showing population estimates, rankings and components of change for the nation’s counties and county equivalents since Census 2000 and up to July 1, 2007, will reveal the answer. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 20, with two-day media embargo.)
2007 Metropolitan and Micropolitan Area Population Estimates — St. George, a former farming community in Utah’s southwest corner, has been the nation’s fastest-growing metro area in recent years. Internet tables will show population estimates and rankings of change for St. George and the nation’s other metro and micro areas between April 1, 2000, and July 1, 2007. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 27, with two-day media embargo.)
Economic
Pollution Abatement Costs and Expenditures: 2005 — This report shows detailed statistics on capital expenditures and operating costs for pollution prevention and pollution treatment for the manufacturing sector. These data are available by cost category (treatment/capture, prevention, disposal and recycling) and the media (air, water discharge and solid waste), both by state and industry. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late March/early April.)
Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2006 — This annual data set provides an overview of federal spending at the national, state and county levels. The data are obtained from federal government agencies and describe spending for procurement contracts, salaries and wages, direct payments, loans and insurance. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early April.)
Public Education Finances: 2006 — This report offers a comprehensive look at school district revenues and expenditures. Highlights include spending on salaries, construction, support services, administration and transportation. It allows users to calculate per pupil expenditures and compare funding sources for public education by state. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early April.)

2010 Census
Census Bureau Announces Location of 2010 Regional Census Centers — March 13 — The Census Bureau announced the selection of sites for regional census centers to support the 2010 Census. The centers will be in the same metropolitan areas as the Census Bureau’s regional offices and each will oversee field operations within the region. Economic Census Forms Overdue — March 3 — While the Feb. 12 deadline has passed, businesses that received 2007 Economic Census forms are urged to complete and return them as soon as possible to satisfy their legal obligation. National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation — Feb. 28 — More than 87 million Americans 16 and older participated in wildlife-related recreation in 2006. This report — prepared by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from a survey conducted by the Census Bureau — presents data involving fishing, hunting, observation, photography and feeding, as well as number of trips taken, duration of trips, and expenditures for food, lodging, transportation and equipment. Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May) — March 3 — May was chosen because of two important milestones: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants (May 7, 1843) and contributions of Chinese workers to the building of the transcontinental railroad, completed on May 10, 1869. Economic Census Forms Due — Feb. 11 — Forms for the 2007 Economic Census, sent to more than 4 million businesses in December, were due back Feb. 12. Data from the economic census provide the foundation for the gross domestic product and other economic statistics, and also support both public policy and private business decisions. New History Web Site — The Census Bureau has a new Internet site dedicated to the history of census taking in the United States since 1790. The site contains information about the decennial and economic censuses, surveys, the agency, innovations and notable Census Bureau alumni. Additional links allow visitors to browse decade-by-decade historical facts and pop culture items related to the censuses, including photographs, publications and historical documents.
