Profiles of Older Workers —The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Hawaii will be the sixth state to be released in the series. (Tentatively scheduled for release in November.)
Economic
2006 Service Annual Survey: Truck Transportation, Couriers and Messengers, and Warehousing and Storage — In 2005, U.S. commercial trucks traveled 90 billion miles — the equivalent of nearly 1,300 trips to Mars and back. This 2006 report reveals updates on revenue and expense estimates for firms that haul, warehouse and deliver America’s freight. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late November.)
2006 Service Annual Survey: Securities, Commodity Contracts, and Other Financial Investments — Did revenue grow in the financial industry in 2006? Did investment banking generate more revenue than the brokerage industry? How did financial advice firms compare? This report tracks the rapidly changing revenue for firms that make up the securities section of the financial industry. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late November.)

Facts for Features
Black History Month (February) — To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, the Census Bureau presents a collection of demographic and economic statistics about the black community. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early December)
Valentine’s Day — The year’s most romantic edition features a collection of Census Bureau demographic and economic statistics pertaining to this special day for lovers. Data are provided on chocolates, flowers and jewelry, among other topics. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-December)
Editor’s note: Facts for Features are customarily released about two months before an observance in order to accommodate magazine production timelines.

A Child’s Day: 2004 — Oct. 31 — In 2004, 47 percent of teenagers had restrictions on their TV viewing, up from 40 percent of the teenagers in 1994. 2006 Annual Survey of Manufactures — Nov. 7 — U.S. manufacturing employed 13 million people, and shipped goods — such as computers, clothing and pharmaceuticals — were valued at about $5 trillion. The report contains national- and state-level statistics on employment and payroll, costs of materials, inventories, shipment values, expenditures and more. Internet address:

American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month (November) — Oct. 29 — Presidents have signed proclamations to honor the nation’s 4.5 million American Indian and Alaska Natives each year at this time. This group is younger and has larger families than the national population.
