Demographic
Geographical Mobility: 2006 — These 34 tables highlight migration patterns and characteristics of movers in the United States, including how far people move, how often and why, among others. Data are from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey. (Scheduled for release Oct. 16.)
Profiles of Older Workers — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Indiana is the fourth state to be released in the series, followed by Arkansas and Hawaii. (Indiana scheduled for release Oct. 15 and Arkansas scheduled for release Oct. 16.)
Population of Hurricane-Affected Areas — The Census Bureau will issue population estimates and maps of areas that could be impacted by the next named storm or hurricane that threatens landfall on U.S. soil. An example is Hurricane Humberto striking Texas on Sept. 13 (http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/emergencies/index.html).
A Child’s Day: 2004 — This report marks 10 years of data that examine the well-being of children and their daily activities. These 30 tables are based on the Census Bureau’s Survey of Income and Program Participation and examine everything from mealtime habits to academic experience. (Tentatively scheduled for release early November.)
Facts for Features
American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month (November) — Presidents have signed proclamations to honor the nation’s 4.5 million American Indian and Alaska Natives each year at this time. This group is younger and has larger families than the national population. (Tentatively scheduled for release in October.)
Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) — Gobble, gobble! Economic and demographic statistics pertaining to the menu of culinary delights consumed on Thanksgiving Day. (Tentatively scheduled for release in October.)
Holiday Season — The Census Bureau presents numerous facts and figures related to Christmas and other holidays this time of year, a time of gathering and celebrating with friends and family, gift-giving and general cheer and rejoicing. (Tentatively schedule for release in late October.)
Editor’s note: Facts for Features are customarily released about two months before an observance in order to accommodate magazine production timelines.

OnTheMap Version 2 — Sept. 30 — The Census Bureau has released the last wave of OnTheMap Version 2, bringing the number of states available in this tool to 42. OnTheMap is a Web-based, interactive mapping application that shows where people work and where workers live on maps, with companion reports on their age, earnings and industry distributions. This wave adds nine states: Alaska, California, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah and Wyoming. OnTheMap provides timely data for labor market, economic development, transportation, emergency management and other potential applications. Internet address: <http://lehdmap2.did.census.gov/themap/>

Consolidated Federal Funds Report: 2005 and Federal Aid to States for Fiscal Year 2005 — Oct. 9 — The CFFR is an annual report on the geographic distribution of federal funds in the United States, including detail down to the county and municipality level. It covers direct payments, grants, procurement contracts, salaries and wages, loans and insurance. Amounts given can be either expenditures or obligations. The FAS contains federal agency and program-level data on grants to state and local governments. Facts for Features
Veterans Day (Nov. 11) — Oct. 11 — Parades and speeches across the country, as well as a national ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, highlight this federal holiday. Some of the statistics from this day include the number of veterans in the country (24.1 million), their racial and ethnic backgrounds, and the number who vote (17.4 million). Internet address:

Special Edition: Launch of Sputnik I and Start of the “Space Race”: 50th Anniversary (Oct. 4): — Oct. 3 — Presents facts commemorating the Soviet Union’s launch of the first satellite into orbit, the resulting “Space Race” between the Soviets and the United States and today’s U.S. space program.
