Upcoming

2010 Census

2010 Census Integrated Communications Campaign Contract Award — This contract — estimated to be worth about $200 million — will be at the forefront of a multifaceted, integrated effort to increase the mail response rate, improve accuracy, reduce the differential undercount and encourage cooperation during nonresponse follow-up operations for the next census. (Scheduled for release Sept. 6.)

American Community Survey

2006 Social, Economic and Housing Characteristics Data Release — On Sept. 12, the Census Bureau will release the 2006 American Community Survey (ACS) data on social, demographic and housing characteristics for the nation, states, every congressional district and all counties and places with populations of 65,000 or more. This is the first year that ACS data includes group quarters (prisons, dorms, nursing homes, etc.).

Group Quarters and Selected Population Profiles — On Sept. 27, the Census Bureau will release the third and final 2006 ACS data, which will include workplace geography data and separate profiles for select race and ethnic groups, and, for the first time since 1990, profiles of the group-quarters populations. Data cover geographies and groups with populations of 65,000 or more.

Profiles of Older Workers — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Vermont is the third state to be released in the series, followed by Indiana, Arkansas and Hawaii. (Tentatively scheduled for release in September.)

Health and Health Care of the Older Population in Urban and Rural China: 2000 — An examination of activity limitations, self-assessed health, chronic disease status and lifestyle behaviors of China’s older population. Custodial Mothers and Fathers and Their Child Support: 2005 — This report shows national-level trends of child-support income received by parents for children whose other parent lives elsewhere. It also examines other types of support received for the children, such as health insurance and noncash assistance. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-September.)

State and County Housing Unit Estimates: July 1, 2006 — Last year, Florida had four counties in the top 10 with the fastest housing gains in the nation. Updated estimates of the nation’s housing stock at the national, state and county levels for 2006 will show whether this pattern continues. (Tentatively scheduled for release in mid-September.)

Population of Hurricane-Affected Areas — The Census Bureau will issue population estimates and maps of areas that could be impacted by the next named storm or hurricane that threatens landfall on U.S. soil.
