Demographic Surveys

Geographic Mobility: 2005 — More than 39 million Americans, or about 14 percent of the population, changed addresses last year. A series of tables show characteristics of these movers, such as by race and Hispanic origin, age, marital status, educational attainment, labor force status, occupation and industry group, income and poverty status and reason for moving. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-September.)

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2005 — A college degree nearly doubles your salary according to the latest educational trends and attainment levels. The table package shows characteristics such as age, sex, race, marital status and more. Although the statistics provided are primarily at the national level, some data are shown for regions and states. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-September.)

Consumer Expenditure Survey Data Collection — Information about how much Americans spend on items ranging from gasoline to groceries will be collected in October from about 7,000 randomly selected households across the country. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-September.)

Current Population Survey Design and Methodology (Technical Paper No. 66) — The CPS — sponsored jointly by the Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics — is the country's primary source of labor force statistics. This document describes changes made to the survey since 2000. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)

American Community Survey

Third Wave of 2005 American Community Survey Data (household characteristics) — The latest release shows housing characteristics — such as types of homes, median value, heating fuel used and plumbing facilities — for nearly 7,000 areas, including all congressional districts and counties, cities and American Indian/Alaska Native areas of 65,000 population or more. (Scheduled for release Oct. 3.)

Economic Census

2002 Survey of Business Owners: Characteristics of Businesses and Characteristics of Business Owners — National-level statistics on owner’s age, education level, veteran status and primary function in the business; family- and home-based business; types of customers and workers; and sources of financing for expansion, capital improvements or start-up. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late-September.)

Facts for Features

American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month (November) — Statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas are compiled relating to as “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations have been issued every year since 1994. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-September.)

Veterans Day (Nov. 11) — Statistics from the Census Bureau’s demographic subject area are compiled relating to the national holiday honoring our military veterans. Parades and speeches occur across the country, highlighted by a national ceremony taking place at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-September.)

Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) — Gobble, gobble! Economic and demographic statistics pertaining to the menu of culinary delights consumed on Turkey Day. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-October.)
