Demographic Surveys
Consumer Expenditure Survey Data Collection — Information about how much Americans spend on items ranging from gasoline to groceries will be collected in April from about 7,500 randomly selected households across the country. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March.)
Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Spells of Unemployment, 2001-2003 — The median duration of unemployment was 2.4 months between January 2001 and December 2003, according to a nationwide analysis of the labor force. The report, from the 2001 panel of the Survey of Income Program and Participation, has national-level information on unemployment by age, education and race and Hispanic origin. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March or early-April.)
Estimates and Projections
Domestic Net Migration in the United States: 2000 to 2004 — This report describes recent patterns of population redistribution within the country. Analysis focuses on net migration for different geographic areas, including regions, divisions, states, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas and counties. The report focuses on the post-Census 2000 period but also includes data from 1990 to 1999. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March or early-April.)

2002 Economic Census
Media Advisory: 2002 Survey of Business Owners: Hispanic-Owned Firms News Conference (Tuesday, March 21, 10 a.m.) — Details will be revealed about Hispanic-owned businesses gathered from the 2002 Economic Census. The news conference takes place at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. (Scheduled for release on March 17 and 20.)
2002 Survey of Business Owners: Hispanic-Owned Firms — Report on the state of Hispanic-owned businesses from a survey conducted every five years. Statistics are shown separately for businesses with and without paid employees. The report includes data on sales and receipts for the nation, states and local areas where Hispanic-owned businesses are concentrated. (Scheduled for release March 21.)
2002 Economic Census: Subject Series — Fifty-five reports
for several industry sectors — all at the national level — are now
being issued on a flow basis. These reports include information such as product
shipments by contributing industries. All 883 geographic area series reports
and 651 industry reports have been published. Available at <http://www.census.gov/econ/census02/>.
Economic Surveys
2004 Annual Survey of Local Government Finances - School Systems — The report on local government finances contains data on revenues, expenditures, debt and financial assets for public elementary and secondary school systems. The report includes state rankings of revenues and expenditures per pupil. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid- to late-March.)
2005 State Government Tax Collections — Hawaii has collected the most taxes per capita for three straight years. Will it lead for a fourth year in a row? The answer will be revealed from national and state data on tax collections. Categories of data include severance taxes, occupation and business licenses, individual income taxes, general sales taxes and property taxes. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March.)
Facts for Features
100th Anniversary: San Francisco Earthquake (April 18) — Today, people talk of “leaving their heart in San Francisco.” But a century ago, this great city was largely destroyed by one of our nation’s most catastrophic natural disasters. The fact sheet spotlights how the city has changed since then. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March.)
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May) — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas about the Asian and native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander populations, whose heritage is celebrated in May. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-March.)
Small Business Week (April 9-15) — To commemorate the
43rd annual celebration of America’s entrepreneurial spirit, we include
a variety of data about “mom and pop” corner stores; people operating
a business out of their home; and other small businesses. (Tentatively scheduled
for release late-March.)
