Demographics

Decennial Census

Census Bureau Begins Test on Cheyenne River Reservation — Between March and May, census workers will conduct the 2006 Census Test on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. Census staff will visit every home on the reservation to update addresses and interview residents to fill out a questionnaire. This test will help prepare for the 2010 Census. (Scheduled for release March 9.)

Demographic Surveys

Health Status, Health Insurance, and Health Services Utilization: 2001 — How often do Americans use health care services? If you’re looking for an answer, this report may be “just what the doctor ordered.” It provides data on the frequency of visits to doctors, dentists and hospitals and whether or not people are taking prescription medicine — by characteristics such as self-reported health status, age and health insurance coverage status. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-February.)

Estimates and Projections

County Population Estimates and Rankings: 2005 — In 2004, Flagler County, Fla., was the nation’s fastest-growing county. Did this northeastern Florida enclave repeat this distinction in 2005? The answer will be revealed via Internet tables showing population estimates, rankings and components of change for the nation’s 3,141 counties and county equivalents since Census 2000 and up to July 1, 2005. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

Miscellaneous

65+ in the United States: 2005 — A comprehensive socioeconomic profile of older Americans, funded by the National Institute on Aging and featuring data from decennial censuses and several surveys. Data are at the international and national levels with some statistics for states and selected counties. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

Economics

2002 Economic Census

2002 Economic Census: Subject Series — Fifty-seven reports for several industry sectors — all at the national level — are now being issued on a flow basis. These reports include information such as product shipments by contributing industries. All 883 geographic area series reports and 651 industry reports have been published. Available at <http://www.census.gov/econ/census02/>.

Economic Surveys

Annual Capital Expenditures (ACES) Survey: 2004 — ACES is part of a comprehensive program designed to provide more detailed and timely information on capital investment by nonfarm businesses. For those companies with employees, capital expenditures data are published for 136 industries. Total capital expenditures, with no industry detail, are shown for the businesses without employees. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-February.)

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Survey: 2004 — A supplement to the Annual Capital Expenditures Survey, the ICT survey was developed to fill a void for data on e-business infrastructure investment by nonfarm businesses. ICT equipment is defined as computers and peripherals; telephones and telephone apparatus, facsimile equipment, and routers, etc.; electromedical and electrotherapeutic apparatus; and, computer software. (Tentatively scheduled for release late-February.)

2004 Annual Survey of Local Government Finances - School Systems — The report on local government finances containing revenues, expenditures, debt and financial assets for public elementary and secondary school systems. The report includes state rankings for revenues and expenditures per pupil. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

Facts for Features

Facts for Features: Older Americans Month — Some would contend that life really begins at 65. Celebrated in May, people who have reached this milestone are the topic of this fact sheet, which contains data on their demographic characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-March.)

Facts for Features: Asian Pacific American Heritage Month — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas about the Asian and native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander populations, whose heritage is celebrated in May. (Tentatively scheduled for release early-March.)

Facts for Features: Mother’s Day — Presents statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas commemorating this special day honoring our nation’s moms. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

100th Anniversary: Great San Francisco Earthquake — Today, people talk of “leaving their heart in San Francisco.” But a century ago, this great city was largely destroyed by one of our nation’s most catastrophic natural disasters. This fact sheet commemorates this event, comparing life in “The City by the Bay” then and now. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)
