Census-Related

Expansion of American Community Survey — The American Community Survey (ACS), a large monthly survey that produces census long-form-like data annually instead of every 10 years, is being expanded to every county in the nation. The ACS will replace the long form in the 2010 Census. (Scheduled for release on Jan. 10.)

American Community Survey Data Collection — Demographic, social, economic and housing information, usually collected every 10 years, will be collected monthly starting this month from a rolling sample of about 250,000 households across the United States and Puerto Rico. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 23.)

Facts for Features: St. Patrick’s Day and Irish-American Heritage Month — Statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to St. Patrick’s Day 2005 and Americans of Irish ancestry. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 9.)

The Foreign-Born Population in the United States: 2004 — National-level tabulations on this population group by characteristics such as citizenship status, age, year of entry, poverty status and world region of birth. Includes first-ever tabulations on nativity by generation. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 16.)

Local Employment Dynamics: A Profile of Older Workers — These reports focus on older workers by industry, their age, job gains and losses, the industries in which they are concentrated, job stability and earnings. (The reports for Colorado and Pennsylvania are tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 16.)

Current Population Survey Data Collection — On Feb. 20, Census Bureau field representatives will begin visiting randomly selected households for the Current Population Survey’s update of employment data. They will also be collecting data on topics such as income, health insurance coverage, living arrangements and geographical mobility. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 23.)

Next Wave of Interviewing in Survey of Income and Program Participation — In February, interviewers will visit a national sample of randomly selected households to ask about program participation, health insurance coverage, employment, income and other topics. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 23.)

Alternative Income and Poverty Estimates for the United States: 2003 — Two reports, one on income and one on poverty, based on data from the 2004 Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey. They present alternative measures which take into account the effect of taxes and food stamps and other noncash benefits on income. These measures are intended to provide a more complete measure of economic well-being than the official income and poverty concepts, which are based solely on the amount of money people or households receive during the calendar year. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 30.)

Supplemental Measures of Material Well-Being: Trends in Well-Being and Poverty — 1992 to 2002 — Report continues an effort begun in 2003 to explore additional ways of assessing the economic well-being of the U.S. population, using indicators which include the possession of consumer durables, the condition of housing and neighborhoods and whether households have been able to meet basic needs. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of Jan. 30.)
