Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) Files (1 Percent) — Census 2000 files containing individual long-form questionnaires for a 1 percent sample of people and housing units. Names, addresses and other identifiable information are deleted. (Scheduled for release on May 21: Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon and Utah.)

Census 2000 Summary File 4 (SF4) — A total of 323 summary tables of social, economic and housing characteristics for up to for 336 population groups: total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska native categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes); 39 Hispanic or Latino groups and 86 ancestry groups. SF4 contains sample data for population and housing items such as language and ability to speak English; ancestry; educational attainment; number of rooms; heating fuel; value of home and monthly rent. To be released by state through September. (Scheduled for release on May 21: Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia.)

Census 2000 Brief: Veterans 2000 —Data on veterans by period of service, regions and states and the top 10 largest cities where they live. Includes information on characteristics such as the employment and poverty status of veterans. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 18.)

Census 2000 Brief: Home Values: 2000 — High- and low-median home values for single-family housing units across the country. Includes a look at cities with large concentrations of $1 million-dollar homes. Other information examines the median value of single-family homes, by race and Hispanic origin. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 18.)

<Census 2000 Brief: Poverty 1999 — Data on people in poverty at the close of the last century, including characteristics for regions, states, counties, and places with population of 100,000 or more. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

Census 2000 Brief: Employment Status: 2000 — Data on employment status of people 16 and over, including labor force growth, participation rates and employment differences among regions, states, counties and places with populations of 100,000 or more. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

Census 2000 Brief: Housing Costs of Renters: 2000 — High- and low-rent areas and the proportion of household income used to pay the rent. For the nation, regions and states. Also, proportion of household income used to pay the rent by race and Hispanic origin. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

Gross Migration Summary: 2000 — Counts of people 5 years old and over, nonmovers and movers by geographic area (United States, regions, states, counties [or minor civil divisions in New England] and individual metropolitan areas); the numbers of in- and out-migrants from the same or different geographic area, as well as domestic net migration and the number of people living abroad five years ago. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 15.)

Non-Census

The Older Population in the United States: March 2002 — Report and tables from the Current Population Survey present national-level data on the socioeconomic characteristics of people age 55 and over, with tables on subjects such as marital status, educational attainment, labor force status, income and poverty status. (Scheduled for release on May 20.)

Metropolitan Movers, 2000-2001 — The first post-census data on the number and percentage of people who move to metropolitan areas, including those coming from abroad. Information for most, but not all, metro areas. Source: American Community Survey: 2001. (Tentatively scheduled for release on May 20.)

Facts for Features: Father's Day — Statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic and economic subject areas for Father's Day 2003. Similar Facts for Features commemorate other events and holidays throughout the year. (Scheduled for release on June 2.)

The Asian and Pacific Islander Population in the United States: March 2002 —Report and tables from the Current Population Survey with data for Asians and Pacific islanders by age, marital status, family type and size, education, occupation, income, poverty and housing. The tables also show comparable national data for non-Hispanic whites. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

American Housing Survey for Selected Metropolitan Areas in 2002 (Microdata) —Files for 13 metropolitan areas, available only through the Federal Electronic Research and Review Extraction Tool (FERRET) at <http://ferret.bls.census.gov/cgi-bing/ferret>. Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

Supplemental Security Income and Its Noninstitutional Recipients: July 1997 and 1999 — Information about who receives SSI benefits, how much they receive and other demographic characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of May 25.)

Net Worth and Asset Ownership of Households: 1998 and 2000 — Report and tables from the Survey of Income and Program Participation showing median net worth changed over the period since 1984 with household data cross-tabulated by various demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Also, median value of specific types of assets. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 1.)

Children's Living Arrangements and Characteristics: March 2002 —Report and tables from the March 2002 Current Population Survey with national-level data on the often complex living arrangements of children. Includes new estimates of children who live with "stay-at-home" fathers or mothers. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 8.)

Consumer Expenditure Survey Data Collection: July 2003 — Data about how much Americans spend on groceries, clothing, health care and housing will be collected in July from a sample of randomly selected households across the country for the Consumer Expenditure Survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of June 8.)

Economic

Consolidated Federal Funds Report for Fiscal Year 2002 (State and County Areas) — Only consolidated source of state and local area data on the majority of direct federal expenditures, as well as data on federal loan and insurance programs. (Tentatively scheduled for release the week of
June 1.)

Older Americans Month A collection of digital media products intended to assist reporters in doing stories about this observance. This Web page provides downloadable photos, radio sound bites and direct links to related information. In addition, a streaming video file contains a broadcast video news release featuring interviews with Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, Sen. The Profile America CD for May 2003 is in distribution. This series of 60-second features, one for each day of the month, is heard on more than 500 stations across the country and around the world on Armed Forces Radio. Each feature is keyed to an event whose anniversary or observance is celebrated on the air date. Audio and text features for the balance of Profile America for May are still available online at the Web address below. Topics featured are: Brown vs. Board of Education; Morning Radio D-J Wise Guy Day; and the invention of Scotch tape. June's Profile America will cover such topics as women's suffrage, National Trails Day, Take a Kid Fishing Weekend and Father's Day.

This month's Feature Photo coincides with Older Americans Month. The number of people 65 and over in the United States is now 35.3 million or 12 percent of the total population.
