STATEMENT FROM COMMERCE SECRETARY
DONALD L. EVANS ON TODAY’S DURABLE GOODS ORDERS DATA

WASHINGTON, DC – “The improving health of our manufacturing sector shows that President Bush's economic policies were just what the doctor ordered,” Evans said. “Manufacturers have added more than 80,000 jobs since January and as today's numbers illustrate, factory activity continues to heat up. President Bush is committed to growing our economy until every American who wants a job has one.”

Note: Today, the Commerce Department released data showing that durable goods orders rose 1.7 percent in July, well above market expectations. Durable goods are manufactured items, like cars and machinery that are expected to last at least three years.
