GSA Wins Eight of 35 NEA Degisn AwardsGSA # 9678 April 26, 2000
"It is gratifying to know that we at GSA are helping to ensure that good design is an integral part of responsible stewardship," said Robert A. Peck, GSA's Public Buildings Service Commissioner, who accepted the awards on the part of the agency. "At GSA, we have intensified our design excellence efforts through our Office of the Chief Architect, and the achievements are greater each year. Public buildings are not just places where public business is conducted, but represent what government is about. As such, GSA strives to build buildings designed by the best designers working in America today." The quadrennial Federal Design Achievement Awards were established in 1983 as part of the Presidential Design Awards program. This year's award-winners now are under consideration for Presidential Awards for Design Excellence, which are presented by the President for the highest quality of design based on international standards. Bill Ivey, NEA's chairman, presented the awards at the Women in Military Service For America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery on California:
