SEC. EVANS CONTINUES NATIONWIDE TOUR PROMOTING PRESIDENT
BUSH’S ECONOMIC GROWTH AND JOB CREATION PLAN
Stops in Michigan and Pennsylvania;
Will Open NYSE on Wednesday
U.S.
Secretary of Commerce Don Evans is back on the road again this week
talking about the President’s economic growth and job creation
plan and its impact on the economy. Evans was the guest of U.S.
Rep. Fred Upton (Mich.-6) at the Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce Monday
evening before traveling to Pennsylvania Tuesday to participate
in an economic roundtable with U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter and local
businesses in Pittsburgh.
“The
President believes that our economy isn’t growing fast enough
or creating enough jobs for American workers,” said Evans.
“That’s why President Bush will continue to fight for
the economic growth plan that will have the maximum impact on our
economy and create the most jobs for our workers. The President
proposed that plan in January, it was the right plan then, and it’s
the right plan now.”
Tuesday
afternoon, Evans will host a townhall meeting in Harrisburg with
senior citizens to discuss President Bush’s plan to eliminate
the double taxation on stock dividends, a provision that will benefit
35 million shareholders, half of whom are our nation’s senior
citizens. Wednesday morning, Evans will take the plan to Wall Street
where he will open the day’s trading at the New York Stock
Exchange and discuss the plan’s benefits with investors. Evans
has now traveled to 30 cities and 16 states since President Bush
unveiled his plan in January.
Next week, Evans will travel to Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.;
and Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M. to meet with small businessmen
and women as well as with unemployed workers to discuss the plan
and how it will impact their bottom line.
