GSA Issues Report on Intergovernmental Management
Washington, DC -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has released a report to senior government and industry officials worldwide that documents lessons learned in managing three successful intergovernmental programs.
The report, titled "The Challenging Road to the Government of the Future: Intergovernmental Management Issues and Directions," is on the Internet at http://policyworks.gov/intergov in the "Reports and Presentations" section. A limited number of printed copies are available by calling Renee Hughes at (202) 501-0291 or sending an e-mail to renee.hughes@gsa.gov.
The following case studies were based on the successful intergovernmental programs:
* The Advanced Law Enforcement and Response Technology is a result of innovative partnerships with all levels of government and over 40 industry partners to enhance public safety.
* Electronics Benefits Transfer provides the capability to deliver government benefits across State lines.
* The interagency International Trade Data System Project Office eliminates duplicative government reporting requirements among trading partners at six border locations.
One of the report's principle findings is the need for special cooperation and information sharing among many partners. Frank McDonough, Deputy Associate Administrator of GSA's Office of Intergovernmental Solutions, Office of Governmentwide Policy, said "We see cultural shifts suggesting that governments understand that the demand for integrated seamless services by citizens requires that governments work together and overcome intergovernmental challenges and barriers."
