Organizational Profile

Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) is a community-organized and community-operated non-profit corporation serving the residents of Kalihi Valley through a philosophy of “Neighbors helping Neighbors.”  It was formed in 1972 as a 501 (c) (3) organization by community leaders in response to the absence of accessible and appropriate health services for the valley’s growing Asian and Pacific Island immigrant populations.

Decades ago, KKV began providing its first medical and dental services from two renovated army trailers in the back parking lot of Kalihi Baptist Church. Today, one hundred and fifteen staff offer services in seventeen Asian and Pacific Island languages and from six separate community locations -- including the first and third largest public housing communities in the State of Hawai‘i, a new 12,000 square foot health center, a 4,000 square foot Elder Center (the former site of the main clinic) and 100 acres of leased State Park land for exercise, cultural practices and community gardening at the back of Kalihi Valley.  Services Currently Provided
