Mission:
To produce an annual tax digest that conforms to the requirements of Georgia Law and Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Department of Revenue.


The Board of Tax Assessors, an independent body appointed by the Board of Commissioners, is responsible for placing a fair and equalized value on all taxable property.

The Board of Commissioners sets the millage rate. The billing and collection of taxes is the responsibility of the Tax Commissioner.

Jan. 1 of each year is the assessment date in Georgia. Accordingly, all property must be valued for ad valorem taxes based on its condition and use as of Jan. 1.

Personal Property Reporting Forms and Applications for Freeport Exemption may be filed at the Tax Assessors’ Office 736 Whitlock Ave, Marietta, GA 30064.

The Board of Tax Assessors is responsible for handling the following applications:
  • Property Tax Exemption;
  • Inventory Freeport Exemption;
  • Conservation Use

The main office for the Property Tax Division is located just over a mile west of the Marietta square, open Mon - Fri, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information about tax payments, applications and exemptions, please visit www.cobbtax.org

The Tax Commissioner's Office is responsible for billing, collecting and disbursing property taxes. Taxable property includes not only real estate but also personal property (from boats to business assets) as well as motor vehicles and mobile homes.

This office collects real/personal property taxes not only for Cobb County but also for two of the County's six municipalities, Acworth and Kennesaw. Motor vehicle and mobile home taxes are collected for the County and for all six municipalities (Acworth, Smyrna, Kennesaw, Powder Springs, Marietta, and Austell)

The Tax Commissioner's Office process applications for Homestead Exemption, School Tax Exemption and all other types of special Homestead Exemptions.
