Commerce Secretary Gutierrez Commends Resolution of WTO Dispute with China on Prohibited Subsidies

LOS ANGELES—U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the announcement of the resolution of the WTO dispute with China on prohibited subsidies:

"Today's announcement by U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab is an important development in our trade relationship with China, our third-largest trading partner.

“This resolution shows that the intelligent use of trade enforcement tools, combined with results-oriented dialogue, can produce real results. Foreign government subsides distort the free flow of goods and adversely affect American business in the global marketplace.

“The Department of Commerce remains committed to aggressively enforcing America's trade laws including enforcing laws against domestic Chinese subsidies, so that our trading relationship with China is both strong and fair.”
