Occupational employment projections to 2008

Douglas Braddock
Economist, Office of Employment Projections, Bureau of Labor Statistics

Note: projections for 1998-2008 have been superseded by projections for 2000-10

Occupations requiring an associate degree or more education, which accounted for one-fourth of all jobs in 1998, will account for 40 percent of total job growth from 1998 to 2008. This article discusses the projected changes in the structure of employment at the major occupational group level for the 1998–2008 period, along with the changes that occurred in the previous 10-year period, 1988–98.
