POSITION: Research Chemist, GS-1320-11/12
LOCATION: Gainesville, Florida

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The position is located in the Mosquito and Fly Research Unit at the Center for Medical, Agricultural, and Veterinary Entomology in Gainesville, Florida. The incumbent would: (1) isolate and identify chemicals that can be used to influence the host-seeking behavior of biting flies; (2) assist in developing methods and techniques for the delivery of biologically active concentrations of attractants, repellents, and attraction-inhibitors to hematophagous Diptera; (3) assist in pesticide studies that may involve purity analysis, chemical composition identification, or environmental fate studies and application technology studies of pesticides and; (4) collaborate with chemists and entomologists in the development of trapping and control systems for use in the field.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: PhD. in Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering or closely related field that included 30 semester hours in chemistry is required. Knowledge of environmental chemistry, analytical, organic, and physical chemistry, and insect behavior are desirable.
