DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located with the Cotton Structure and Quality Research Unit at the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans, LA.  The incumbent will conduct research and design instrumentation to develop accurate reference methods (by desiccation, Karl Fischer titration, etc.) for moisture content in cotton from the field to the laboratory.  The results from within and between methods will be compared.  Bias and precision of the new reference methods will be computed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Polymer Science, Textile Technology, or a closely related field is required.  Knowledge and experience with improving or creating analytical methods is desirable.  Knowledge of textiles and statistics is preferred.
