DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Small Grains Fungal Pathology Laboratory of the Crop Production and Pest Control Research Unit within the USDA-ARS on the Purdue University campus , West Lafayette, Indiana. This project is focused on comparative bioinformatics analyses of sequenced fungal genomes to identify the origins of transposable elements and to test for horizontal gene transfer. The successful applicant will be expected to develop algorithms and approaches to test hypotheses about transposon evolution and to look for horizontal transfer of genes or other genetic materials between genomes. Experience with PERL scripting or other approaches for comparative bioinformatics analyses preferred.
UALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a recent Ph.D. in genetics, plant pathology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field. Prior experience working with large-scale analyses of genomic data sets is helpful but not required.
