POSITION: Research Geneticist (Plants)

LOCATION: Ames, IA

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames, IA. As a member of a team of geneticists and bioinformaticists the incumbent will develop and apply genomic techniques and biological analyses for the purpose of investigating emerging diseases in legumes, with emphasis on Asian Soybean Rust. The incumbent will create cDNA libraries, identify candidate genes for resistance or defense against Asian Soybean Rust and other emerging diseases, and conduct functional characterization of candidate genes. Other duties will include mapping of transcripts to the soybean genetic and physical map and comparative analyses to other legumes. The incumbent will assist in the development of a platform for evaluating the function of candidate genes in soybean.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Genetics, Plant Physiology, Biology or a related field. Experience with molecular biology techniques is required. Knowledge of Bioinformatics/Computational Biology is desirable.
