Unemployment Insurance Integrity to be Focus of April 15-16 Conference in Norfolk, Va.

NORFOLK, Va.—The U.S. Labor Department’s Employment & Training Administration will co-sponsor a conference with the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) focusing on ways to prevent, detect and recover overpayments in state unemployment insurance programs.

Hosted by the Virginia Employment Commission, the second professional development conference on unemployment insurance integrity will be held April 15 and 16 at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel.

“The Administration is very committed to maintaining strong integrity in the nation’s unemployment insurance system, and reducing overpayments is a high priority,” said Emily Stover DeRocco, head of employment and training for the Labor Department. “This meeting supports state efforts to reduce fraud, abuse and other payment errors by sharing successful practices.”

The conference will highlight exciting new tools to verify the identity of those filing new claims and quickly detect claims from individuals who have returned to work. Other topics to be presented include Internet resources, data crossmatches for overpayment detection and recovery, system security threats, prosecuting fraud, and identity theft prevention and prosecution.
