William B. "Bart" Bush was sworn in as the Assistant Regional Administrator for GSA’s Public Buildings Service for the National Capital Region (NCR) on June 19, 2006. The Public Buildings Service provides a full range of real estate services: real estate acquisition and disposal, property management, construction and repairs, security services, and overall portfolio management. NCR’s real estate portfolio consists of 91 million rentable square feet, comprising 50 million rentable square feet of leased space and 41 million rentable square feet of owned space in Washington, DC, and the surrounding metropolitan area.

Bart brings to GSA over 15 years of management experience in real property transactions, facility operations and economic development, with an emphasis on commercial office leasing, space planning, sales of real property and negotiation and financing of complex real estate transactions.

Before joining GSA, Bart served as Deputy Commissioner for Real Property Management and Development in the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) for five years. In that position, he managed a real estate portfolio totaling 33 million square feet which included 18 million square feet of state-owned office space and 15 million square feet of leased space, and oversaw an annual capital projects budget of approximately $70 million. He also was responsible for implementation of the Governor of New York’s $340 million Albany Plan initiative, involving over two million square feet of new office space. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Commissioner, Bart served as Assistant Commissioner of the Real Estate Planning and Development group for OGS.

Bart’s prior experience also includes serving as the Economic Development Director and Director of the Lakefront Development Corp. for the city of Syracuse, and work in the private sector for Dean Witter Reynolds. He also served as Councilor-at-large on the City of Syracuse Common Council, first elected in 1989 and re-elected in 1993.

Born in Williamsburg, Virginia, Bart was raised in upstate New York and received a bachelor's degree in political science from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He and his wife Connie have five sons. They reside in Fairfax, Virginia.
