Emily R. Baker - Regional Administrator, Northeast and Caribbean RegionEmily R. Baker was appointed by President Bush on July 9, 2006 to serve as Regional Administrator for GSA’s Northeast and Caribbean Region. In her role as principal executive of the region, Ms. Baker heads a GSA workforce of 750 employees across New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. GSA’s Northeast & Caribbean Region has an annual operating budget estimated at $1.9 billion and a real estate portfolio that includes 83 government-owned buildings and leased space in 448 commercial buildings. Ms. Baker will oversee a number of major projects, including the expansion of border stations along the U.S./Canadian border, the construction of a new federal courthouse in Buffalo, the return of federal tenants to the World Trade Center site and the development of the new U.S. Mission to the United Nations. Ms. Baker previously served as Senior Advisor in the Northeast and Caribbean Region. Before joining GSA, Ms. Baker served as the Deputy Director for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Prior to joining the Bush Administration, Baker worked for Barbour Griffith & Rogers, a government affairs firm in Washington, DC. Before coming to Washington in 2001, Baker worked for Idaho State Treasurer Ron Crane, the Idaho State Senate, and while attending university served as a policy aide to then Idaho Governor Philip Batt. As a result of her work to gain access to capital for small businesses while with the Treasurer’s Office Ms. Baker is a recipient of the Small Business Administration’s Vision 2000 Award. A native of Idaho, Ms. Baker is an alumna of Boise State University with degree in political science.
