Tyree Varnado - Acting Commissioner, Federal Acquisition ServiceTyree Varnado was named Acting Commissioner for the U.S. General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) on September 21, 2008. In this capacity, he leads the delivery of approximately $48 billion of best-value services, products and solutions to federal customers that increase overall government effectiveness and efficiency. Since December 2002, Varnado had served as the Assistant Regional Administrator (ARA) for FAS, Greater Southwest Region. Prior to his arrival in Fort Worth, Tyree served from 1996 to 2002 as the ARA for FSS, Heartland Region in Kansas City. From 1973 to 1985, Tyree served in various capacities at the GSA National Finance Center in Kansas City, including Chief, External Services Division and Chief, National Payroll Center. Tyree's impressive 35 years government service began with the U.S. Department of Agriculture before finding his long-term home at GSA. Tyree received a bachelor's of science in business administration from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff.
