FTA has many partners, stakeholders, and customers, who share an interest in and a concern about the vitality of transit. This group of organizations makes easily-accessible information about transit issues available to the public. The following are links to FTA partner-stakeholder-customer web sites.


  • 511 Travel Information is a customer driven multi-modal (transit included) traveler information service available throughout the United States. It provides real time travel information (such as bus schedules, accident updates, congestion information, etc.) and is accessed by telephone and other personal communication devices.
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is America’s oldest national engineering society and represents more than 137,500 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide, to foster leadership in enhancing an international better quality of life.
  • APTA: American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is a national organization that supports the American transit industry and promotes the vitality of American transit systems. APTA, as America’s transit advocate, sponsors forums for information sharing, education and training; collects and disseminates important transit information; presents transit performance recognition awards; and assists FTA with the implementation of many transit strengthening activities.
  • Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) 
  • Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) is a not-for-profit corporation established by the major transportation research centers and institutes in the United States. CUTC promotes continued dialogue among its member institutions, and it provides a forum for the centers to interact collectively with government and industry.
  • Easter Seals Project ACTION funded through a cooperative agreement with FTA, promotes cooperation between the transportation industry and the disability community to increase mobility for people with disabilities.
  • Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an organization of transportation, engineering, and other professionals, who focus on providing safe and efficient surface transportation through planning, designing, implementing, operating and maintaining surface transportation systems worldwide.
  • ITS America The Intelligent Transportation Society of America is a not-for-profit, organization, established to coordinate the development and deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems that reduce delay, injury, fatality through integrated systems that are built and operated to be safe, cost-effective, efficient and secure in the United States.
  • ITS Joint Program Office is a group of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s modal administrations that supports the overall advancement of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) through investments in major initiatives, exploratory studies and a crosscutting core program that will improve safety, mobility and productivity in transportation.
  • Mobility Services for All Americans is a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) initiative that builds upon several past and current USDOT-led activities to increase mobility and accessibility for the transportation disadvantaged and the general public, and achieve more efficient use of federal transportation funding resources through technology integration and service coordination.
  • National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers 
  • National Rural Transit Assistance Program provides information, training, and advice to rural public transportation operators.
  • National Transit Database FTA collects and disseminates data on the state of mass transportation via the National Transit Database (NTD) program. Over 600 of the nation's transportation providers submit data to the NTD annually. Both the public and private sectors use this data to assess the current state of mass transit.
  • SBA - Office of Technology - SBIR/STTR - SBIR and STTR Programs The Small Business Innovation Research Program provides federal funds to small businesses to help them explore their technological potential. SBIR also provides the incentive to profit from small business commercialization of technological innovations.
  • Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Transit Cooperative Research Program is a cooperative effort of FTA, the Transportation Research Board, the Transit Development Corporation, and the American Public Transportation Association to conduct practical research with near-term results to solve operational problems, adopt useful technologies from related industries and, generally to help the transit industry innovate.
  • Transportation Research Board (TRB) one of six major divisions of the National Research Council, promotes innovation in transportation through research. The Board facilitates the sharing of information on transportation practice and policy; stimulates research and offers research management services; provides expert advice on transportation policy and programs; disseminates research results and encourages their implementation.
  • Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) A searchable database of articles maintained by the Transportation Research Board and supported by state and federal agencies.
  • University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program is a group of 33 academic institutions, which advance U.S. technology and expertise in transportation through education, research, and technology transfer at university-based centers.
