Job Description:
The Motor Carrier Safety Division within the Volpe Center is seeking IT Specialists with varying levels of experience to join a team of Analysts and IT Specialists in conducting assessments of the effectiveness of safety regulations and programs.
The incumbent will be responsible for processing data and writing programs according to specifications to support analytical requirements of operations research analysts and the development of information resources. Some specific duties include:
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of the FMCSA©s analysis websites using appropriate development tools (i.e. Visual Studio, HTML, PL/SQL, and ASP).
- Designing, developing and running data update procedures and validating the results.
- Supporting the FMCSA Data Analysis Request Team by responding to analysis requests from both field and FMCSA headquarter staff. Including identifying key data sources, designing and implementing queries to support requests, validating results and documenting the business rules.
The ideal candidates are critical thinkers with strong analytical, writing and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be able to work well independently and on project teams. Transportation-related experience is a plus.

Qualification Requirements -All applicants must be U.S. citizens and also meet the requirements for each grade to which he/she is applying as outlined below:

GS-5 applicants:
- one year of experience in the computer field that provided the applicant with a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles.
GS-7 applicants:
- Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement* OR
- Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience in the IT field OR
- one year graduate-level education in any field of study
GS-9 applicants:
- two years of experience in the IT field; OR
- Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement* and one year of experience in the IT field OR
- Two years of experience in the IT field; OR
- Graduate degree.

How You Will be Evaluated: Applicants will be evaluated to determine that they meet the qualifications required above and to determine possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities as defined in (a) and (b) below. Selections will be made periodically as applications are received up until the deadline.
