Circular Letter
No. 528
March 20, 2003
TO: Printing and Publishing Officials of the Federal Government
SUBJECT: Federal Depository Library Program Quantities for
Publications Produced via Direct-Deal Term Contracts
The purpose of this Circular Letter is enlist your assistance
to ensure that correct Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP)
quantities are included on each print order submitted on direct-deal
term contracts.
The continuing transition to a more electronic FDLP has resulted
in reducing the number of "hard copies" of publications required
for dissemination through the program. Therefore, it is important
that agencies include the GPO-specified quantity of depository
library copies on each print order submitted on direct-deal
term contracts.
Each fiscal year, the GPO notifies agencies submitting work
via direct-deal term contracts of the correct quantity of FDLP
copies to add to the print orders for their products. Letters
updating this information are sent, as necessary, throughout
the fiscal year. However, many agency print orders continue
to contain severely outdated quantities, and the cost of these
excess copies and their storage adds an unnecessary financial
burden to the program. Your review of each print order to ensure
the correct quantity of FDLP copies ordered will help us avoid
the need to charge these unnecessary copies back to the agencies
involved.
Please be reminded that GPO's notification letters also include
important information regarding quantities to add for other
agencies' riders, the International Exchange Program, and the
GPO Sales Program.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance. If you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your GPO Account
Representative or the Departmental Account Representative Division
on 202-512-0238.
Sincerely,
JIM BRADLEY
