Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge is pleased to announce the appointment of Nebraska Lieutenant Governor David Heineman to serve as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).  The Council provides advice and recommendations to Secretary Ridge on homeland security-related issues.  The HSAC is comprised of experts from state and local governments, first preventer and responder communities, academia and the private sector.

"Lt. Governor Heineman is a dedicated public servant and I look forward to working with him in this important role.  His state and local leadership experience and service as a state homeland security advisor will allow him to provide comprehensive insights on the effort to better secure our nation," said Secretary Ridge.

David Heineman currently serves as the Nebraska State Homeland Security Advisor, Chairman of the Nebraska Information Technology Commission, and Presiding Officer of the Nebraska Legislature in this second four-year term as Lieutenant Governor.  Under his leadership, Nebraska has invested approximately $22 million to improve first responder capabilities and $21 million with public health entities for bioterrorism preparedness.  Heineman previously served on the Fremont City Council (1990-1994) before being elected State Treasurer in 1994 and again in 1998.  He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and of the Army's Airborne and Ranger Schools.
