TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD (TRB)
2009 ANNUAL MEETING

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a major component of the National Academies of Science in providing services to the government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities. FTA provides financial support to TRB which permits it to participate in research panel reviews, committee meetings, and development and presentation of sessions at the TRB Annual Meeting.

The TRB Annual Meeting, held in Washington, DC every January, hosts more than 10,000 transportation professionals from around the world - - including representatives of federal, state, and local government agencies; universities; and industry.  This forum provides for the exchange of information on a vast array of topics ranging from basic science questions, recurring engineering challenges, and pressing policy issues.

Seeking Comments:

In an effort to ensure that FTA presents topics of relevance to the industry, we are seeking input on identification of panel sessions and speakers for the TRB Annual Meeting, as well as any other improvements to FTA presentations at the TRB Annual Meeting (e.g., exhibit booth).

FTA TECHNICAL PANEL SESSIONS FOR JANUARY 2009

  • Transit's Role in Responding to Climate Change
  • Public Private Partnerships: Coming to a Transit Agency Near You
  • State of Good Repair: Urban Transit Maintenance and How to Pay for It
  • Effectively Taking Global Climate Change Into Account in Planning and Decision-making for Public Transportation

Please email Lisa Colbert at lisa.colbert@dot.gov with your suggestions by September 15, 2008.  See suggestion areas below.

  1. Any suggestions for future FTA panel session topics and speakers for the TRB Annual Meeting.
  2. Any suggestions for improving the FTA exhibit booth at the TRB Annual Meeting.
  3. Anything else you would like to tell FTA about its participation in TRB Annual Meetings.

The information collected in the “suggestion box” is used for planning, executing and evaluating FTA programs and services.  Your comments help FTA assess its effectiveness and find opportunities for improvement.   For your reference, information on prior year(s) FTA panel sessions is provided below.

Outcome of Prior FTA Panel Sessions:

Our goal is to share knowledge and provide information on issues of interest to the transit community.  We are passionate about delivering results that matter and we are continuously looking for ways to raise the bar and improve what we do.

Each year, since 2006, the FTA Research Office of Technology has collected data from people attending its panel sessions at the TRB Annual Meeting.   The results of this data for the past 3 years are categorized by the tables below.

  • Sessions FTA conducted in 2006, 2007 & 2008 that data was collected;
  • Approximate number of individuals attending panel session; and
  • Data input of respondents’ assessment of the usefulness of the sessions.
