The Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration in cooperation with the National Forest Service and Rio Blanco County is administering a construction project to remediate landslides on the Flattops Scenic Byway, Forest Highway 16 over Ripple Creek Pass. This project will consist of stabilizing slopes, installing drainage systems, and reconstructing roadways through slide areas.
A construction contract was awarded to American Civil Constructors, Inc. on November 20, 2007 for the contract amount of $1,859,495.00.

Traffic Delays
During the hours of 7:00 am to 6:30 pm expect flaggers and pilot cars to guide traffic through a one lane section on multiple slide work areas. Average wait is approximately 5 minutes with a maximum wait of 30mins. At night one lane remains closed with concrete barrier. Watch and wait for the stop light at night. Trucks are hauling, turning, and crossing the roadway in multiple areas from Ripple Pass summit to Cyclone Trailhead road - watch for trucks. Vaughn Lake campground is open and Cyclone Trailhead area is open. Ripple creek Pit and Rough Creek Pit are closed to public due to pit ongoing operations. Dust control is in place & maintained near campground, intersections to pit and through work zones. Watch for trucks and equipment. Respect signs & use caution through work area.
