Office of IT Security, Infrastructure & Technology

The Office of IT Security, Infrastructure, and Technology manages and implements the Department-wide IT security program and the Department-wide critical infrastructure program, including: development and promulgation of policy and procedures; monitoring compliance of operating units; overseeing operating unit IT security programs; and management of the Commerce Federation of Computer Incident Response Teams. The Office is responsible for ensuring adequate IT support for Continuity of Operations (COOP) and for coordinating IT for COOP Department-wide. The Office is responsible for telecommunications to support emergency and COOP requirements; managing the Government Emergency Telecommunications System program usage throughout the Department; supporting the secure telephone system requirements of the Department; and representing the Department at working groups and committees addressing IT security and secure telecommunications issues. The Office monitors and evaluates new and emerging IT which may be applicable for Department use, and advises the CIO on ways such technology can be most effectively introduced.
