The FRA's crossing team has been instrumental in promoting technologies designed to improve safety. From providing guidelines for traffic control devices at crossings, to developing the Rails With Trails report, the crossing team has worked with other governmental agencies and private-sector industries to prevent injuries and deaths.

The FRA's crossing team comprises a staff of 10 headquarters personnel in Washington, D.C., and 18 regional managers and assistants in offices across the country.
