Zorinsky Federal Building Renovation1616 Capitol Avenue Originally built in 1960, the Edward Zorinsky Federal Building is in the final stages of a complete renovation and modernization. In 1999, GSA initiated a plan to revitalize the structure and create prime office space for the federal community in Omaha. Interior demolition was completed in 2003, and renovation to the building’s shell began in August 2004. Project Scope The design of the building includes a three-story atrium located in the main circulation area and a four-foot wide daylight corridor around the perimeter of the third through ninth floors. These two features will allow the building’s workers ample access to natural sunlight. In addition, exterior lighting shelves reflect light into the building’s core, while electronic lighting systems regulate artificial light depending on the amount of sunlight entering the work areas. Upon completion, the Edward Zorinsky Federal Building will comprise 432,076 gross square feet. Once occupied, it will provide top tier office space, energy efficient operations and structural durability for the next 50 years and beyond. Occupancy Timeframe December 2007 - Summer 2009 Total Estimated Project Cost (subject to change) $58,712,000 Stakeholders and Partners U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District Building Amenities EZ Eats Café and Vending Stations
