Project Amount: $41,500
RFA: GRO Fellowships for Undergraduate Environmental Study (2007)
Research Category: Academic Fellowships
Description:
Objective:This project will investigate the application of Polyelectrolyte Enhanced Ultrafiltration (PEUF) for the selective removal of perchlorate from aqueous solution.
Approach:Through ultrafiltration experiments, the effectiveness and the efficiency of PEUF in the removal of perchlorate from other aqueous solution components will be investigated using systems of the colloids poly(diallyldimethylammonium) chloride (PDADMAC), quaternized polyvinylpyridine (PVPQ), and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH). The influences of ionic strength and colloid concentration will be studied. Perchlorate concentrations will be determined through ion chromatography (IC) using a DIONEX AS16 column.
