The Nebraska Safety Center, located on the University of Nebraska campus at Kearney provides mine health and safety training classes and site specific safety consultations for the mining operations and miners in the State of Nebraska. The goal of the Nebraska Mine Safety and Health Program is to reach all the miners in Nebraska not receiving training to ensure that they have the opportunity to receive effective safety and health training that reduces the number of mining fatalities, injuries, and illnesses related to the occupation of mining.

The Nebraska Mine Safety and Health Program assists mining operations by conducting classes in:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training;
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training; and
  • 30 CFR parts 56/57 First Aid Training.

Additional services include:

  • Conducting safety consultations;
  • Providing information to the mine operators on the health and safety issues in Nebraska mining environments; and
  • Contract Awareness Program.
