The goal of the Kansas Small Mine Safety training program is to provide cost-effective, site-specific, and on site safety training for all mining operations in the state of Kansas. Within the Hutchinson Community College, the Kansas Small Mine Safety program has a reputation for providing new, informative, and innovative training for every client company. Most all training is conducted on the mine sites.

Courses offered include:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training;
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training and Newly Hired Experienced Miner Training;
  • Silicosis Prevention;
  • Noise Abatement; and
  • Instructor Training.

A number of topics are discussed in the courses offered. These topics may include:

  • Basic First Aid;
  • Bloodborne Pathogens;
  • Supervisor Training in Accident Prevention, Substance Abuse, Tailgate Talks (how to give effective safety talks);
  • Mine Rescue Training
  • Explosives Safety;
  • Fire-Fighting;
  • Powered Haulage Safety;
  • Electrical Hazards;
  • Blaster Safety;
  • Rescue (Water Hazards) and Water Safety;
  • Hazardous Materials and Material Handling;
  • Welding, Gas, and Electric;
  • Proper Lifting Techniques;
  • Small Hand Tools/ Hand Safety;
  • Confined Spaces;
  • Forklift Safety;
  • How to Protect Your Customers on the Mine Site; and
  • Miners' Rights.
