DIRECTIONS TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY FROM THE CROWNE PLAZA

Metro Directions:
Take the Metro tunnel accessed from the hotel to the Blue Line toward Washington, DC. Exit at the Smithsonian (Mall) Station. Cross the Mall, and to the right will be the National Museum of Natural History. Use the front entrance to go through security. After passing through security, you may take the elevator (located to your right or left upon entering) to the Ground Level or proceed around the Elephant Rotunda and take the escalators down to the Ground Level. Straight ahead will be the Baird Auditorium.

SECURITY TIPS AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
When you visit any of the Smithsonian's buildings, you will discover new security measures to ensure your safety and the safety of the objects contained within. A security officer will conduct a thorough, but speedy hand-check of all bags, briefcases, purses, and containers.

Do not bring large daypacks, backpacks, or luggage into the museums, as they will be subject to a lengthy search in each building entered.
Most museum lockers and checkrooms have been closed.
A reminder: Bag lunches are not permitted in the museums.
Do not bring any sharp items into the museums such as knives (including pocket or Swiss Army-style knives), screwdrivers, scissors, nail files, corkscrews, etc. Other items not permitted include firearms, pepper spray, and Mace.
All visitors are required to walk through a metal detector. Those who are unable to go through the metal detector will be hand-screened with an electronic wand by security personnel. Bags will be checked by hand.

The Smithsonian follows the Homeland Security Advisory System. Under the Orange Advisory Level, all Smithsonian museums are expected to remain open. Under the Red Advisory Level, all Smithsonian museums will be closed.

PARKING
There is no public parking facility at the Smithsonian on the National Mall. On-street parking is limited and posted times are enforced. There are commercial parking lots and garages located within several blocks of the museums. There also is a limited number of parking spaces for vehicles with the appropriate license plate or permit for visitors with disabilities.

Try to use public transportation, such as the Metro. The use of public transportation, including taxis, in Washington is recommended as on-street parking is limited and traffic often is heavy.

National Museum of Natural History
Atrium Café provides fast food options. (Located on the same Ground Level as the Baird Auditorium, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Fossil Café features soups, sandwiches, salads, gelato, and an espresso bar. (Located on the First Floor at the back of the Fossil Plant Hall, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

National Museum of American History (1 block west of the Museum of Natural History)
Main Street Café food court features burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, entrees, beverages, and desserts.
Palm Court Café offers sandwiches by Subway, salads, gelato, and cappuccino.

Smithsonian Building Castle (Across the National Mall)
Castle Café offers specialty coffees, sandwiches, desserts, and more.

National Air and Space Museum (5 blocks southeast of the Museum)
Wright Place Food Court features McDonald's, Donato's Pizza, and Boston Market.
Mezza Café offers sandwiches, soups, and salads.

National Museum of the American Indian (7 blocks southeast of the Museum)
Mitsitam Café features native inspired sandwiches, entrees, soups, desserts, and beverages from five regions of the Western Hemisphere.
