Kwik-Site Corporation Settles Charges of Illegal Exports

The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced that Kwik-Site Corporation (Kwik-Site) of Wayne, Michigan, has agreed to pay a $54,000 civil penalty to settle charges that it exported firearm scope mounts in violation of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) agreed to suspend $27,000 of the penalty for a period of one year and thereafter waive that amount contingent upon Kwik-Site not committing further violations during the suspension period.

BIS charged that, on 101 occasions between May 1999 and September 2002, Kwik-Site exported firearm scope mounts to Macedonia, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Canada, and Switzerland without the required export licenses.

Kwik-Site cooperated fully with the investigation. When initially informed of the Bureau of Industry and Security investigation, Kwik-Site suspended the export of all firearm scope mounts, sought assistance from a Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center, and subsequently resumed exporting its product in compliance with the EAR.

Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Julie L. Myers commended Special Agent Diane Zedde, formerly with the Chicago Field Office, and Special Agent in Charge Wendy Hauser, for their efforts in this investigation.
