Denial Letter May Not Rule Out Disaster Assistance
If you have applied for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency and receive a letter saying your initial request for help has been denied, it may mean
your application was incomplete or incorrect. One of the most common reasons for denial concerns
insurance. FEMA must deny aid until an insurance settlement is reached because assistance programs are
not intended to duplicate insurance compensation or cover deductibles for disaster-related loss or damage.
