GUÍA DEL CONSUMIDOR: PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

The growing purchasing power of more than 44 million Hispanics can’t be ignored. This market attracts plenty of clever advertising, and it’s not always easy to tell the opportunities from the frauds. Now Hispanic consumers can turn to the Guía del Consumidor, a Spanish-language publication produced by the Federal government to help consumers make the best decisions in the marketplace.

The Guía includes the same great tips found in the award-winning Consumer Action Handbook, which helps people make smart consumer decisions. Confused about how to build good credit? Want to know how to write an effective complaint letter? Need tips on how to buy a car or home? Answers to all these questions and more are conveniently found in the Guía del Consumidor.

Because the Guía is designed for a Hispanic audience, it features an “Immigration” section including a list of legitimate immigration resources and warns against fraudulent immigration consultants and attorneys. The Guía also highlights specific frauds that affect Hispanic communities: affinity fraud, fake ID cards, modeling scams, and international courier cons. In addition, the Guía features a directory of Federal government resources in Spanish.

To make the Guía as easily accessible as possible, it is also available online at www.consumidor.gov. The website provides searchable, interactive access to all the information in the Guía and a handy toggle feature that allows a user to switch to English on any page. Use this site to easily find state and local consumer protection offices, a sample complaint letter, and relevant, timely, consumer news links and resources.

The 96-page Guía is a valuable resource for the Latino consumer community— helping to save and protect your money.

Ordering your free copy of the Guía del Consumidor is easy:
