Description:
Objective:The objectives of this research project are to: (1) investigate the environmental benefits and impacts of Japanese international environmental aid to countries in Southeast Asia; and (2) evaluate the impacts of local Japanese initiatives towards global climate change in Japan.
Approach:Initially, coursework will be completed to simultaneously satisfy requirements for a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering degree and to help shape the specific research objective and research design. The research approach, a social science research methodology, will use a combination of surveys and detailed case study analysis of local Japanese action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector. An analysis of emissions inventories will provide quantitative information regarding effectiveness of local Japanese greenhouse gas emissions policy. In addition, a literature review of the subject, in both English and Japanese, will be conducted.
This research project will reveal the impact of Japanese international environmental aid to Southeast Asia and local initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help identify the most effective regulatory framework to mitigate global climate change.
