Under Secretary Mancuso Delivers Keynote Address at 2008 Export Control Forum in Newport Beach, California

On March 17, 2008, Under Secretary Mancuso delivered the keynote address at the 2008 Export Control Forum in Newport Beach, California.  The Export Control Forum is the Department of Commerce’s leading West Coast private sector outreach program, and is attended by hundreds of U.S. technology companies.
 
In his remarks, Under Secretary Mancuso highlighted the need to strengthen the U.S. dual-use export control enforcement architecture in light of global changes, and urged Congress to pass “a reauthorized Export Administration Act as quickly as possible.” He also reiterated his three highest policy priorities for the remainder of the administration:

• Prioritizing and refining BIS’s enforcement efforts, particularly by focusing on terrorists, proliferators, and  nations of transshipment concern;

• Reforming and updating dual-use export controls to enhance U.S. national security and competitiveness; and

• Accelerating and elevating international engagement with the most dynamic high technology markets in the world.
